Margate Light Tower
by Chris Page
Standing at the end of the Harbour Arm at Margate is an octagonal tower with a beacon on top, built in 1955. This was the replacement for the original 1829 lighthouse that was destroyed in the great North Sea Flood of 1953.
Although the heady days of Margate as the big seaside destination have long gone, still people come to enjoy the sunshine and it’s marvellous sandy beach.
